Following the Aikido Tradition established by Morihiro Saito Sensei, and his son, Hitohiro Saito Soke, Traditional Aikido of Petaluma offers disciplined training in both body arts and weapons forms. This parallel training philosophy is called "Riai" and it forms the basis of Iwama Style Aikido. The heart of our training is to be found in the sword, and the sword strike is our most fundamental practice.

Body arts classes, or "tai jutsu," focus on fundamentals of body position, foot work and hip movement, the deployment of kokyu, and the ability to merge your energy with that of an attacker. Within this context, techniques are taught on three levels: static, flexible, and flowing.

Weapons classes offer instruction in all 5 levels of Morihiro Saito Sensei's Weapons Curriculum. Fundamental practices will include ken and jo suburi, footwork, and body position. Intermediate practices include 13 and 31 jo kata, various ken partner practices, 10 kumijo and 5 kumitachi Advanced practices include 13 and 31 kumijo awase, ki musubi no tachi, linked kumijo, and ken tai jo.

Monthly fee is $45 . Drop-in class fee is $10 per class.
